THE LADY LEAFS 4TH PLACE AT STATE IS THE HIGHEST NON-FOOTBALL FINISH IN SCHOOL HISTORY.  SENIOR DANIELE DEWEY EARNED ALL-STATE HONORS

LADY LEAFS MAKE HISTORY WITH 4TH PLACE FINISH

On Saturday, November 7th the Lady Leafs traveled to Peoria's Detweiller Park to participate in the IHSA State Cross Country Finals.  The last time the Lady Leafs qualified for the State Finals was 1998.  Emily Ford was 3 YEARS OLD.  Geneseo has had several near misses over the past 11 years including last year's heartbreaking 6th place sectional finish.  This year's team refused to miss out on the fun.

The Lady Leafs toed the starting line at 10:30 am ranked 18th in the state.  Demonstrating how little respect the team was given Dixon was ranked at 17th.  Dixon didn't qualify for this year's state finals.  The Lady Leafs were picked to beat just two teams in the meet.  Needless to say, the Lady Leafs toed the line with a lot of motivation to show the State pollsters just how wrong they were about the Lady Leafs of Geneseo.

At the gun the team reacted nicely and rolled through the first 600 meters which is slightly downhill.   Senior Danielle Dewey led the charge and settled into the top 25 early with dreams of All-State running through her head.  Joann Chenoweth, Emily Ford, and Paige Gatter  had similar goals and weren't far behind Dani.   Behind them Jenny Ford was running the race of her life slightly ahead of Seniors Betsy Winberry and  Amy Cosgrove who eventually just had a bad day.  Roaring up the final homestretch, the Lady Leafs unleashed the beast and showed tremendous passion and purpose.  Danielle Dewey held off a huge pack of All-State hopefuls to hang on to her top 25 position and earn All-State Honors with an amazing 24th place finish.  Dani has battled severe cramping in her glut's, lower back, and hamstrings all season long and has had the most inspirational season this coaching staff has ever seen.  Not far behind was Joann Chenoweth who was flying.  Jo's last 3/4 mile was head-turning as she placed a strong 33rd just missing All-State honors for the 2nd year in a row.  Things got even better as as Emily Ford and Paige Gatter blazed across the line in 53rd and 58th places respectfully.  Things were looking good for the Lady Leafs at this point.  Jenny Ford and Betsy Winberry sealed the deal with strong 90th and 107 place finishes.  Only Amy Cosgrove had an off day but she gave it everything she had.  When the results were posted the Lady Leafs found out that they were 4th IN STATE.  THE HIGHEST FINISH IN SCHOOL HISTORY.  The top 6 Lady Leafs all ran PR's with Jenny Ford taking a jaw dropping 1 minute off her personal best.  AMAZING.  Congratulation Ladies on an amazing season.

Additional points of interest include that 4 of the top 5 teams in the state finals came from the East Peoria Sectional.  Last year's East Peoria Sectional resulted in 5 of the top 8 teams.  Also, Yorkville's 2nd place girls team returns all 7 runners and will join Geneseo in the newly formed Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference.  Additional state powers include Dixon (Boys state champs in 09 while their Girls were 4th), Sycamore (Boys State Champs in 07 and top 10 last 3 years) and Kaneland (Boys top 5 in 09.)  The conference will be a state powerhouse. The conference will include the following teams:  DeKalb, Dixon, Geneseo, Kaneland, LaSalle-Peru, Morris, Ottawa, Rochelle, Sterling, Streator, Sycamore, Yorkville.

SENIORS LEAD LADY LEAFS TO STATE WHILE THE BOYS PLACE 11TH

On Saturday, October 31st, the Leafs traveled to East Peoria's Illinois Central College for the IHSA Sectional Finals.  The Peoria Metro area was hit with over 4 inches of rain in the last two days.  This following a very wet fall made the conditions a "mudders delight".

The Lady Leafs toed the line with a bit on anxiety.  Number 7 runner, Hilary Lohman, was unable to race with a hip injury while Number 5 Regional runner, Jenny Ford, mispacked her gear bag and forgot her spikes.  Add to that the fact that Freshman number one runner, Emily Ford, wasn't feeling very well and things weren't looking too good.  Picked as a bubble team at best the Lady Leafs shot off the starting line with the goal of ending an 11-year drought of state finals for the team.  Senior Danielle Dewey moved into 8th place and held it the entire way earning All-Sectional Honors.  Behind Dani things got interesting as Freshman Emily Ford gave the coaches the thumbs down sign just past the mile (AKA:  feeling "VERY BAD".)  Emily gave it everything she had but was eaten alive by the pack and drifted back into the number 7 Leaf position.  Amazingly, as her teammates passed her they realized that they had to "MAN UP".  Boy did they ever.  Joann Chenoweth and Paige Gatter just kept moving up and roared to 13th and 14th overall.  At this point the team's chances rested on Super Sub Amy Cosgrove and fellow Senior Betsy Winberry.  They responded with the races of their lives and were eating up runners like crazy as they ran to 40th and 42nd places respectfully.  Jenny Ford ran an amazing race in training flats considering the conditions and placed 70th overall.  The "experiment (of racing in training flats) was negative".  Emily Ford refused a drop out offer at two miles and gave it everything she had.  After almost 4 hours of waiting for the results to be posted, the Lady Leafs learned they had qualified for the State Finals with a strong 3rd place team showing.  Many opposing coaches were observed shaking their heads and heard saying, "Where in the heck did Geneseo come from?"  Wait....the best is yet to come.

The boys team was also a bubble team with the odds a bit longer than the girls team.  The boys got off the line very well and navigated the first mile very effectively.  If the meet had been scored at the mile the Leafs would have been in the top 5 and would have qualified for the state finals.  The problem was that there were still two miles to go.  Thomas Sigwalt ran a magnificent race and barely missed qualifying as an individual by only 3 places with a solid 21st place finish.  Not too bad for the 2nd year harrier.  After that the rest of the team had a tough day and drifted backwards in the race during the last two miles.  The goal was to put 5 runners in the top 50 and only Thomas was able to accomplish that goal.  Kyle Reiling (55th), Carlisle Evans Peck (62nd), Jordan Starkey (72nd), and Chad Ford (117th) rounded out the Leaf scoring.  Marcus Gagnon (122nd) and Branden Smith (139th) put forth strong efforts.  When the dust had settled the Leafs learned that they had finished in 11th place.  The bottom line is life isn't always fair.  Sometimes, you fail in attaining your goals.  Lick your wounds men and let this disappointment motivate you to pound out a strong winter of base in preparation for the track season.  You enjoyed a wonderful season and we are proud of each and every one of you.  Please support your teammates as they race in the state finals this Saturday at Detwiller Park in Peoria.

Lady Leafs Win IHSA Galesburg Regional while boys tie for 2nd

On Saturday, October 24th Geneseo traveled to Galesburg to participate in the IHSA Regional Finals.  The meet was hosted at Lake Storey Park.  The conditions were a bit breezy and cool with the course still wet from all of the recent rain.  The top 5 teams advance to next Saturday's Sectional Final.

The Lady Leafs got things rolling with an aggressive race strategy.  The girls blasted off the starting line at the gun and found their pacing partners.  Danielle Dewey and Emily Ford chose to pack with the lead pack.  In fact, Freshman Emily Ford was spotted leading the field just before the mile.  The Lady Leafs continued their post season roll with a solid team effort and a regional championship.  Emily and Danielle both earned All-Region Honors with their top 5 finishes (4th & 5th) while Joann Chenoweth and Paige Gatter did a great job of getting our strong and hanging on as they both cracked the top 10.  Jenny Ford ran a strong race and finished as our 5th scorer with Betsy Winberry and Hilary Lohman running in the 6 & 7 positions.  All 7 Lady Leafs finished in the top 25 and earned entry into the Regional Hall of Fame for their finishes (click here.)  I haven't had a chance to update the 2009 season yet.  The Lady Leafs are really on a roll so get ready for some fun times come the IHSA Sectional Finals hosted by East Peoria High School at Illinois Central College.

The Boys team was ranked 4th coming into the meet and really showed just how wrong the pollsters are when it comes to Sectional Rankings.  We talked a lot the last two weeks about how a lot of the state thinks that Geneseo isn't good enough to advance to state.  It was funny to hear some of the girls share that they got some pretty weird looks from spectators when they tried to motivate our boys team by yelling our battle cry of "You're not good enough."  Only those in our camp truly knew the meaning of the message.  The entire boys top 5 packed nicely through the mile with the lead pack.  In fact, not to be outdone by fellow freshman Emily Ford, Jordan Starkey was spotted in the lead himself just before the mile.  He had a smile on his face so I guess he likes leading.  Things got rolling from there with the team racing well.  Thomas Sigwalt continued his number one man run with an amazing kick to grab the 5th and final medal and earn All-Region.  Jordan Starkey also cracked the top 10 with a strong 7th place finish.  Kyle Reiling, Carlisle Evans-Peck and Chad Ford also cracked the top 25 to enter the Regional Hall of Fame (click here.)  Once again, I haven't updated it for 2009 yet.  Brandon Smith and Marcus Gagnon also put forth strong races.  On to Sectional.  No Excuses.....No Retreats....No Regrets!!!

STERLING 09/JV INVITE

On Tuesday, October 20th the Leafs traveled to Sterling to participate in the Sterling 09/JV invitational.  The team was treated to wonderful racing conditions.  The race was the last competitive effort for many of the team and they didn't waste the opportunity as a plethora of Leafs ran lifetime bests.  Ironically, due to a scheduling quirk, the team was racing on the Sterling course for the 3rd time in the last 11 days.

The team was led via Senior Amy Cosgrove's individual championship in the JV girls division.  Medals were awarded to the top 5 finishers in the freshmen race and top 10 finishers in the JV race for both girls and boys.  Also bagging medals for the girls were Britta Conrad (5th) and Amanda Morse (9th.)

Leading the boys efforts were Seniors Cameron Hodgson and Andrew Kellogg who placed 7th and 8th overall in the JV race.  Also joining in on the medals was junior John Mullin who ran to a strong 9th pace finish.  In the freshman race Kyle Parker nailed down a strong 4th place finish with the best race of his life.  Great efforts were turned in by the entire team.

LADY LEAFS UPSET DUKES TO WIN NCIC WHILE BOYS 2ND

On Saturday, October 17th the Leafs traveled to Sterling for the NCIC.  This officially opened Championship Meet Season.  The Leafs toed the line seeded 2nd to Dixon in both the girls and boys races.  An added note of interest is this was the final NCIC that Geneseo will participate in since we are leaving (with the entire Reagan side) to form the new Northern Illinois Big 12 starting next fall.  Geneseo has been a member of the NCIC for over 60 years.  Those teams will include DeKalb, Dixon, Geneseo, Kaneland, LaSalle-Peru, Morris, Ottawa, Rochelle, Sterling, Streator, Sycamore, Yorkville.

The Fresh-Soph girls got things rolling at 10:00 am.  Britta Conrad was our only entry in that race and she put forth a tremendous effort.  Britta wasn't feeling 100 percent but ran a strong race to grab 3rd overall.  Her kick from 300 meters out.....running side by side with a young lady from Hall was amazing.  It was truly one of the highlights of the day.  Britta didn't just talk the talk....she walked the walk.  Great job Britta.

The Fresh-Soph boys were up next.  Marcus Gagnon exploded off the line and shot right into the lead.  He may have gone out a bit too fast but the look of concentration on his face was inspiring.  The rest of the team got out nicely also.  When the dust had settled (or should we say mud) the Leafs had lost a very heated battle with LaSalle-Peru losing a by a close 26 to 29 score.  Marcus Gagnon led the way with a runner-up finish in the Reagan Divison.  Jesse Mohr was close behind with a strong 4th place showing also earning First Team All-Conference Honors (Top 7.)  Mickey Christensen, Kyle Parker, and Hunter Kuffel  also cracked the top 15 earning 2nd team All-Conference Honors with their 9th, 10th, and 13th place finishes.  Jay Wilson, who returned to action after taking some time off due to a leg injury and ran to a 16th place finish.

The Varsity Girls toed the line at 11:30 and were taking on the state ranked Dixon Dukes.  Never underestimate senior pride.  When the gun sounded the Lady Leafs shot off the line and took it out aggressively.  Danielle Dewey and Emily Ford settled into 2nd and 3rd and held it the entire race leading the Leafs to the title.  Joann Chenoweth exploded out of the woods and kicked down two of the Dixon girls to grab 4th overall.  The girl was flying.  Danielle, Emily and Joann all earned 1st team All-Conference Honors.  Pauge Gatter, Betsy Winberry, and Jenny Ford all cracked the top 15 to earn 2nd team All-Conference Honors.  Hilary Lohman, Amy Cosgrove, Amanda Morse, and Natalie Shipman also contributed to the team effort.

Emotions were high when the Varsity Boys toed the line at 12:15 PM.  The team put forth a strong effort which ended up 9 points more than the Dixon Dukes.  Thomas Sigwalt and Jordan Starkey led the Leaf attack with strong 3rd and 5th place finishes.  Both men earned 1st Team All-Conference Honors.  Carlisle Evans-Peck, Kyle Reiling, and Chad Ford weren't far behind as their 9th, 10th, and 13th place finishes earned 2nd Team All-Conference Honors.  Branden Smith, Andrew Kellogg, Paul West, Branden Oleson, Greg Pemble, Alx Strohmeyer, Tom Dellett, and Jacob Carton all contributed to the team effort.

On Saturday, October 10th the Leafs traveled to Sterling to participate in the powerful 40 plus team Sterling Invitational.  The meet is a monster in regard to state powers.

Leading the Lady Leafs was freshman Emily Ford who placed 31st overall.  Emily missed a medal by only one place and ran a tremendous race.  Joining Emily in the Lady Leafs scoring top five were Joann Chenoweth, Danielle Dewey, Amy Cosgrove, and Betsy Winberry.

Pacing the Leafs up front were Thomas Sigwalt and Chad Ford who both cracked the top 100 in the loaded field.  Rounding out the scoring top 5 were Branden Smith, John Mullin and Paul West.

Leading the Fresh-Soph Lady Leafs were Paige Gatter who ran the race of her life placing 3rd overall.  Also join the top 30 medal party was Jenny Ford who ran to a strong 16th place finish.  Britta Conrad rounded out the team effort with a solid effort.  The Lady Leafs only ran three athletes in the race.

LEAFS SWEEP ROCK ISLAND INVITATIONAL

On Saturday, September 26th the Leafs traveled to Davenport's Credit Island Park to participate in the Rock Island Invitational.  The meet brings in most the the QCA and is run on the the flat (but soft due to rain) Credit Island turf.  The Leafs came in ready to roll.

Getting things started were the Varsity Girls.  Danielle Dewey and Emily Ford led the charge up front with strong 2nd and 4th place finishes.  Not far behind were Joann Chenoweth and Paige Gatter who also broke into the top ten with their 8th and 9th place finishes.  Betsy Winberry provided strong 5th runner support with her 18th place finish.  Jenny Ford, and Hilary Lohman rounded out the Leaf's top 7 with 24th and 29th place finishes.  When the points were totaled the Lady Leafs had won the meet by 46 points over a very respectable field.  Way to go Lady Leafs.

The Varsity Boys were next to toe the line.  The Leafs top group packed nicely through two miles and then got rolling.  Thomas Sigwalt and Kyle Reiling led the Leaf attack with strong 5th and 6th place finishes.  Chad Ford and Jordan Starkey also grabbed top 10 finishes with their 9th and 10th place finishes.  Carlisle Evans-Peck ran a gutsy race after missing two days of school this week due to illness and collected a top 20 finish with his 19 place showing.  Branden Smith and John Mullin rounded out the top 7 with solid races.  Branden placed 36th while John was 61st in the 114 runner field.

Britta Conrad was the only entry for the Lady Leafs in the Fresh-Soph race.  The goal was top 15 and Britta bettered that with her 11th place finish.  This race was one of the brightest moments of the season for me.  It was awesome to see the team support that Britta got.  Even during her form drills and stride outs.  This is what TEAM is all about.

The Fresh-Soph boys completed the day with an 8th place team showing.  Marcus Gagnon led the way with a strong 9th place showing.  Jesse Mohr, jsut missed a medal with his 35th place finish while Mickey Christensen, Kyle Parker, and Hunter Kuffel ran strong races demonstrating a plethora of passion and purpose.  They placed 60th, 69th, and 80th respectfully.

GREAT JOB LEAFS.

SENIOR GIRLS CLAIM FOURTH STRAIGHT TITLE

On Saturday, September 19th Geneseo hosted the Geneseo Cross Country Invitational.  The meet is unique with it's format.  All athletes must run in their class division.   The top 20 finishers in each race were awarded a medal.  Class team championships were also awarded 1st place trophies.

The Freshmen got things rolling with the first race going off at 9:00 am.  Jordan Starkey won the only Geneseo individual title of the day with a smart race plan and was also joined in the top 20 by Marcus Gagnon who placed a strong 5th overall.  Jay Wilson and Hunter Kuffel also ran strong races to aid the team effort and helped the team to a 3rd place finish.

Emily Ford was our only entry in the freshmen girls race and ran a solid race placing 2nd overall.  Amazingly, when the dust settled and the "ghost runners" were added Geneseo's freshmen girls team (Emily by herself) placed 4th.  I guess we aren't the only team having numbers challenges.

Leading the Sophomore boys was Kyle Reiling with a strong 2nd place individual showing.  Jesse Mohr also joined the top 20 with a strong 18th place finish.  Mickey Christensen rounded out the team scoring with a solid race as the sophomore boys placed 6th.

The Sophomore girls ran wild as they claimed the team championship with only 3 girls (thus taking 2 ghost runner hits.)  Paige Gatter led the way with a strong 3rd place finish.  Jenny Ford and Britta Conrad also placed in the top 10 with 6th and 9th place finishes respectfully.  Way to go girls.

Leading the Junior boys to a strong 3rd place team place was Thomas Sigwalt who placed 6th overall and recorded the fastest time for the Maple Leafs in all races.  Also contributing to the team score were Branden Smith, John Mullin, Greg Pemble, and Tom Dellett.

Pacing the Junior girls to 4th place team finish was Hilary Lohman who placed 4th overll.  Also earning top 20 finishes were Amanda Morse and Natalie Shipman.

The Senior boys ran to a strong 3rd place team finish and were led by Chad Ford and Carlisle Evans-Peck who placed 5th and 6th overall.  They were joined in the top 20 by Brandon Oleson.  Also contributing to the team effort were Andrew Kellogg, Cameron Hodgson, Paul West, Alex Strohmeyer, and Jacob Carton.

Last and certainly no least were the Senior Girls who came into the meet having won their division each of the last three years.  Senior pride ran wild as Danielle Dewey, Joann Chenoweth, Betsy Winberry each placed in the top 7.  Amy Cosgrove wasn't far behind with a solid effort while not feeling well with her 12 place finish.  GREAT JOB LADIES.

LEAFS NAB TOP 15s AT POWERFUL PEORIA WOODRUFF INVITATIONAL

On Saturday, September 12th the Leafs traveled to Peoria to participate in the powerful Peoria Woodruff Invitational.  The meet is one of the premier competitions in the nation this weekend.  There were 8 races (A, AA, AAA and Open races for both girls and boys.)

The Lady Leafs got things rolling with a 13th team finish.  Geneseo's top 3 (Emily Ford, Danielle Dewey, Joann Chenoweth) all earned individual medals for finishing in the top 50 overall.  Betsy Winberry, Jenny Ford, and Amy Cosgrove provided strong support.  The Lady Leafs were running without several teammates who were fulfilling a commitment to the marching band and traveled to Chicago instead of running at Detweiller.

The Varsity Boys were up next and were running without Kyle Reiling (marching band.)  The team's top 4 threw a minuscule 16 second spread.  Leading the charge were Thomas Sigwalt, Carlisle Evans-Peck, Jordan Starkey, and Chad Ford who all finished in the top 65.  Branden Smith, John Mullin, and Marcus Gagnon brought in the 5-6-7 positions with strong efforts.

The Open races were huge.  The Lady Leafs had no entries while the boys joined a field that had 813 finishers.  Jesse Mohr led the charge and was supported by Brandon Oleson, Paul West, Ethan Koisti, Greg Pemble, Mickey Christensen, and Tom Dellett who ran as the team's top 7 runners.  The team will next be in action next Saturday as the Leafs host their own invitational.

LEAFS RUN STRONG IN GENESEO QUAD

On Tuesday, September 8th Geneseo played host to Rock Island Alleman, Moline, and Moline.  To say the least this was a strong quad and the Leafs were glad to host the meet.  The coaches agreed to one girls race and the same for the boys.  The racing conditions were a bit humid with a moderate temperature of 78 degrees.  Not bad for early September in Illinois.

The Girls got things rolling first.  The Lady Leafs were racing without two of their top 5 runners as Amy Cosgrove and Jenny Ford were both home ill today.  Danielle Dewey, Emily Ford, and Joann Chenoweth did a great job of packing early and grabbed the 3-4-5 places.  Paige Gatter nailed down her usual number four Lady Leaf spot with a strong 8th place finish while Betsy Winberry, Hilary Lohman, and Britta Conrad provided a lot of depth via their 10-13-15 place finishes.  The Lady Leafs topped the field.  Great job Lady Leafs.

The Boys were up next.  U.T. chose to hold out their top 3 (they went 1-2-3 on Saturday at Galesburg) so that really changed the meet.  Moline got out early and ran to a 1-2-3-4 finish showing that their goal of returning to state is a possibility.  The Leafs packed it in nicely with Kyle Reiling regaining the number one man position via his 5th place finish.  Carlisle Evans-Peck was right on his heals in 7th while freshman Jordan Starkey out sprinted fellow freshman phenom Adlfinger from Alleman....they were flying.  Chad Ford and Thomas Sigwalt were right there also via their 11th and 14th place finishes.  Brandon Smith was a solid number 7 man in 17th as well as freshman Marcus Gagnon who continued to his stranglehold on the number 7 man position with his 27th place finish.

09 Holding Galesburg Trophies:
LEAFS GRAB SILVER AND BRONZE AT HIGH POWERED GALESBURG INVITE

LEAFS CLAIM SILVER AND BRONZE AT POWERHOUSE GALESBURG INVITATIONAL

On Saturday, September 5th the Leafs traveled to Galesburg to join the loaded field and get some early season feedback.  The team has yet to start their speed work and is racing purely on strength (all part of the plan to peak for Championship Meet Season.)  The end result was the team was literally "running wild" and when the dust settled the Leafs carried off 2nd  Place (Varsity Boys) and 3rd Place (Varsity Girls) Trophies.  Well done Leafs.

The Varsity Girls got things going and at the gun the Lady Leafs responded by finding their packing groups.  The team reacted well to the intense competitive level of the meet and demonstrated why they should be a team that is ranked in the state AA poll.  Leading the charge were Emily Ford (9th), Joann Chenoweth (12th), Danielle Dewey (16th), and Paige Gatter (20th) all earned individual medals via their top 30 finishes.  Amy Cosgrove (31st) and Jenny Ford (35) just missed earning medals via their outstanding races.  The team ended up a strong 3rd.  Well done Ladies.

Next up came the Varsity Boy and they also did a great job of finding each other and establishing their ability packs.  The boys moved at the mile and did a great job of moving up through the field.  Pacing the team effort were Thomas Sigwalt (15th), Carlisle Evans-Peck (17th), Kyle Reiling (22nd), Chad Ford (24th), and Jordan Starkey (27th) who all earned individual medals for placing in the top 30.  The team placed 2nd in the loaded loaded field.  Great Racing Leafs.

The Lady Leafs had no entries in the F/S girls race while the F/S boys ran to  a 9th place team finish.  The team was racing without Kyle Reiling and Jordan Starkey (both on varsity) and Mickey Christensen who wasn't feeling well enough to toe the line.  Marcus Gagnon led the charge with his 15th place finish which earned him an individual medal.  Jesse Mohr (42nd), Kyle Parker (65th), Jay Wilson (89th), and Hunter Kuffel (92nd) led the way with their top five team places.

LEAFS CLAIM STERLING GRASS RELAYS

On Tuesday, September 1st the Leafs traveled to participate in the Sterling Grass Relays.  Each athlete was paired with a teammate.  The race length was 6 miles and teammates alternated running (each running 3 mile repeats.)  The girls got things rolling with a strong team effort.  Danielle Dewey and Joann Chenoweth led the charge by grabbing 1st by over 2 minutes.  Jenny Ford and Paige Gatter grabbed 3rd place whild Amy Cosgrove and Emily Ford also placed in the top 5 with a strong 4th place showing.  Well done Lady Leafs.  The Lady Leafs won by a score of 23 to 32.

Pacing the boys team to a 20 to 35 victory were the teams of Kyle Reiling / Carlisle Evans Peck and Chad Ford / Thomas Sigwalt.  Both teams left the field in their wake and finihed over a minute ahead of the 3rd place Sterling team.  Also placing in the top 5 with a strong fourth place finish was the team of Jordan Starkey and Branden Smith.  The teams will next be in action on Saturday at the powerful Galesburg Invitational.

On Thursday night (8/20) seventy-nine runners raced over the hills of Richmond Hill Park in the annual Alumni-Open cross country race.  The race is an imperfect handicapped event where the freshmen girls start first and then every 30 seconds later the next class follows.  The boys follow the same formant (freshmen boys after the senior girls.)  Thus, the senior boys start 3:30 after the freshmen girls.  The middle schoolers also joined in the fun as the girls took off after 7:30 into the two mile race while the boys began 8:00 into the race.  The middle school team raced the 2nd mile of the course.  Several adults also participated and jumped into which ever group they chose.  Good luck everyone this season and thanks for participating in this year's event.

Runstock Group 09:

RUNSTOCK 2009

This year's Runstock crew journeyed to Oregon, Illinois and enjoyed the LOMC's facility.   The team enjoyed the numerous state parks in the area and made the most out of the 3-day camp experience.  2009 Captains Joann Chenoweth, Danielle Dewey, Carlisle Evans-Peck, and Chad Ford did an outstanding job with camp management.  Our team is lucky to have such strong leaders.  Also, a special thank you to the adult supervisors who gave up 3 days of their summer for the team.  Sue Dewey, Denny Peck, Doug Ford, Traci Ford, Don Fredericks, Tessie Fredericks, and Kelley Timmerman.
