Lessons for the Week of February 8, 2010
Monday:
As the students enter the room, they will complete a word of the week activity.
Today we will have a poetry lesson learning more terms.
Tuesday:
Today we will prepare for ISAT testing with an activity.
We will then have an introduction activity to Questioning.
Wednesday:
For today’s class we will be introduced to persuasive writing through the strategy of connection
We will discuss various forms of persuasion in the story and in life (ex. Persuasion through advertising, persuasion through speech and what it takes to make a good ad.)
Assignment: make and advertisement of any type (magazine, billboard, TV, commercial, radio spot, etc.) The advertisement will be due Monday.
Thursday:
Today we will be introduced to the trait of writing called voice.
We will then participate in an activity that practices voice and the skill of questioning.
- Half the table convincing parents to let you go on a weekend trip with your friends to Wisconsin Dells. Half the table parents to be convinced. Using voice, half needs to write a convincing argument, half writes questions parents would want to know. Then, each gets two minutes to present and two minutes to write responses. Two more minutes each to present and winner declared.
Friday:
Silent reading practice with connection 1st half.
Second half work with book groups.
