"Who Am I?" Poster
-Create a poster telling about yourself. This should include information like, name, birthday, hobbies, family, etc. You should include at least six pieces of information, and any pictures or art you would like to add.

Binder cover
-You will get lots of time to make your English binder cover in the computer lab. If you are absent, or need more time, you can complete it at home. You must include, your name, hour and the title of the binder on your cover, plus any other pictures or graphics you wish to include.

Word of the Week (WOW)
-Every week you are to copy down the posted word of the week, and find another of your own to put in your binder before Friday.  You are to write the word, it's definition, use it in a sentence, draw a picture describing it, and an object associated with the word.

Journey to the River Sea posters
-During our Rain Forest unit, you will be creating posters at your table portraying the setting, characters, and plot of Journey to the River Sea. At the end of the unit, you will turn them in for a grade. This is an in-class activity. Click here to see full assignment details.

Journey to the River Sea letters
- In class we will complete a mini-lesson on letter writing and discuss the letter written to Maia in the novel. Write a letter back to the Carters as Maia. What would you tell them? What questions would you ask them?

Journey to the River Sea compare/contrast chart
-in your small groups (in class), you will create a chart with two columns.  On one side, write Maia's original ideas of what the twins would be like; on the other column write what they actually are like.

Journal
-Whenever we do a Literature circle discussion or are asked to answer a writing question in your binder, you should put it in the writing section. When we fill up a few pages, you will receive credit for this journal.  This is all in class work.

Rainforest Haiku
-After participating in a lesson in class on Haikus, create your own Haiku about the Rain forest. Be sure to follow the Haiku format.

Descriptive writing graphic organizer
-This in an in class assignment to help the students prepare for writing their descriptive paragraphs.  They should write the name of something to describe in the rain forest on the middle "bubble" and describe the item as completely as possible in the other bubbles.

Descriptive writing paragraph (rough draft)
-After completing the graphic organizer, the students should then take those ideas and put them into complete sentences.  They should create their best paragraph on one side of a piece of notebook paper.
