My assignments are graded on a point system.  The points are established to reflect the weight they should have in comparison to the rest of the class work.  For example, in class activities receive 5 points and are generally graded for completion and participation in the day's activities.  Homework receives 10 points and points are taken off for any answer incorrect (it is possible to receive half points).  Large projects are given more points, usually worth a total of 100 points.  Writing assignments are valued according to time spent working on it, and length, generally being 50-150 points.  Tests are usually worth 70 points.  The point system is designed to be flexible, and if you feel as though an assignment is given too much or too little weight, feel free to engage in discussion with me.

PLEASE NOTE:    It is my responsibility to teach, not to give poor grades, so I would like the chance to give any extra help to those who need it.  ANYONE WHO GETS A "D" OR "F" ON AN ASSIGNMENT, MAY COME IN BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL FOR INDIVIDUAL HELP AND THEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN POINTS BACK!    I will average the two grades and then replace the first grade with the average.  The student needs to take the initiative to come in for help. I will not automatically give second chances without the student asking.

Late Work Policy:
80-50-zero

If a homework assignment is turned in after the answers have been reviewed in class, it is worth 50% of the earned score. Other assignments turned in up to one day late have 20% deducted from the earned score.
Assignments turned in 2 days late will receive 50% of the earned score.
Assignments will not be accepted for credit after two days late.

A 50% is always better than a zero--especially on a big paper or book report!!!!!

Absence Policy:

As stated in the student handbook, students have two days for every one day they are absent to make up work assigned during their absence. Assignments given before their absence (like due dates for book reports or quizzes) will be due upon their return.

Extra Credit Policy:

I do not give extra credit. However, I will sometimes return assignments to students for them to be redone for partial credit. Students who wish to retry assignments for partial credit need to make arrangements to come in during conference times.
