Week of November 16

Lesson Plans for the Week of November 16, 2009

Monday:

Class will start today with a Word of the Week activity.
At the end of the month, the students will be assessed on their prediction skills.
We will also have a quiz on our poetry elements tomorrow.
We will then have a lesson on revision and how it applies to the traits of writing we have learned so far.  The students will then get their short stories back and they will need to revise them and hand write a second draft by Friday.

Tuesday:

As class starts we will take a quiz on the elements of poetry we have learned so far and we will learn a few more.
Today’s class will be spent reading the story “A Retrieved Reformation” and practice the skill of Fiction Summarization
- We will then participate in a read aloud modeling the use of Non-Fiction Summarization


Wednesday:

Today’s class will start with a activity where the students are putting the events of A Retrieved Reformation in order.
We will then discuss the story using Lit Circle Questions
Jimmy opens the door to a new way of life after falling in love with Annabel.  Do you think love is powerful enough to produce permanent change in people? Why or why not?
How do you think Jimmy will explain his action and suitcase of tools to Annabel? How will she react?

Thursday:

If we do not finish our discussion yesterday, we will start class with it today. Next we will review our traits of writing and work on an Extended response: Why didn’t Ben Price Arrest Jimmy Valentine at the end of the story?
At the end of class, we will participate in a non-fiction summarization activity.

Friday:

- Today is a silent reading day.  We will be practicing our skill of prediction.
