Geneseo Performing Arts Council, NFP [GPAC] History and Membership
History:
Geneseo Performing Arts Council [GPAC] is a merger of band, choral, and
speech/theater booster groups that was officially recognized as
a nonprofit organization in 2003 by the state of Illinois. The merging
of various booster groups under one umbrella was undertaken in response
to budget cuts, which threatened the quality of the fine arts
offerings. Contributions from area businesses, community groups,
district 228 alumni, parents of
alumni, faculty, parents, and supporters of the fine arts helped to
reinstate a music faculty position and activities and
stipends that would have been eliminated due
to budget shortfalls. The consolidation of resources helped
the district to restore some of the budget cuts so that the quality of
the fine arts education, which is a hallmark of district 228, would be
preserved.
Membership: If you are a parent of a student in middle school or high school choir, band, speech or theater, you
are automatically a member of GPAC, and we hope you will be involved by attending meetings and helping with
fund-raising and service activities. You will receive a newsletter each quarter that shares valuable information about upcoming events and fund-raising activities. If you would prefer that your student not be involved in any fund raising activities, you may choose to make a tax deductible contribution instead.
GPAC also welcomes membership and affiliation with any interested
community member, business or corporation and welcomes any tax deductible contributions.
