8th Grade Mathematics – Grading Procedures
Homework Grading

All homework grades will have a total of 10 points.  Students will receive half of these points based upon the completion of homework and the other half from a homework assessment consisting of five questions at the beginning of class the day the homework is due. The point breakdown based on the amount of homework completed is as follows:

Amount of homework completed

Number of homework completion points

Number of homework assessment points

All problems including required work

5 pts.

1 pt for each correct on the assessment

Just over half

3 pts.

1 pt for each correct on the assessment

Just under half

2 pts.

1 pt for each correct on the assessment

Anything less than amounts above

0 pts.

1 pt for each correct on the assessment

Quarter Grades will be figured according to the following:

Homework = 40%        Tests = 40%        Quizzes = 20%

Semester Grades will be figured according to the following:

Pre-Algebra and Math Lab Classes
1st Semester = 1st quarter grade (50%) +
                                              2nd quarter grade (50%)

2nd Semester
= 3rd quarter grade (50%) +
                                              4th quarter grade (50%)

Algebra 1 Classes

1st Semester  = 1st quarter grade (40%) + 2nd quarter grade (40%) +  semester final (20%)

2nd Semester  = 3rd quarter grade (40%) + 4th quarter grade (40%) + semester final (20%)

Absences:  It is the student’s responsibility to request and complete make-up work that was missed while absent.  Students are granted two days for each excused day absent to turn in missed work, as per the student handbook.

If a homework assignment was due on the day of the absence the student will not be required to make-up the daily homework assessment.  Instead the teacher will select five problems similar to those on the assessment and give the student points based upon these problems.

Late Work:

*Homework turned in 1 day late will be worth 3 completion points (if it is turned in complete).

*Homework turned in 2 days late will be worth 2 completion points (if it is turned in complete).

*Work turned in after 2 days will not be accepted and will be worth 0 homework completion points.

Extra Credit:  No extra credit will be given.  If students turn in work on time, they should not need any extra credit.

Projects:  Any project completed will be worth a “Test Grade”.
