If you are familiar with the “Link Crew” for freshman– either as a parent, student or faculty member, please share your comments with us about the value of the program or suggestions for ways for improvement.
The Board of Education, in the past, has instituted summer shutdown periods or times when there can be “no contact” between coaches and athletes, or band/choir directors and musicians. Do you think this is a good idea? If so, why? If not, why do you think they should be eliminated?
There are two pages of additional classroom, workbook, field trip, physical education, and different lab fees assessed at the Middle School and High School. A typical 8th grade student actually spends approximately $100+ to enroll after the $55 Book Rental Fee, plus all the other individual fees. Would you support a slightly higher registration fee at the MS and HS, but then know that you don’t have to pay all these $5 lab fees, $10 workbook fees, etc? For example, a $75 MS and $85 HS fee, but the only other fees left to pay would be perhaps an Activity Fee (if you were in a sport or band/choir)?
Many high schools spend a great deal of time emphasizing the importance of the ACT test and spend time and money preparing students to do well on this test. In your opinion, does the Geneseo School District underemphasize, overemphasize, or appropriately emphasize the ACT? Any other reactions to the ACT?
Do you have any ideas for issues that the Geneseo Board of Education should be addressing in the next year? Or perhaps over the next 3-5 years?
Looking at the Facilities Post there is a great deal of conversation about air conditioning in the buildings (remember that only the Middle School, Southwest and part of the High School has A/C), so how do you think the district would pay for the necessary costs associated with air conditioning the schools? Would you or do you think the community would support a tax increase to fund this project and the additional utility costs associated with this?
The district is contemplating offering totally web-based registration for the 2008-09 school year. You would be able to complete forms, pay fees, etc. without coming into the school at all. Would you use this service or would you still prefer coming in and writing checks and taking care of all your work in person?
